Maraias Burgusio Revisited: An Adventure in South Tyrol

Maraias Burgusio

Last year, I discovered an oasis of peace in the heart of South Tyrol – Maraias Burgusio Luxury Suites & Apartments. This year, my wanderlust led me back to this heavenly sanctuary on my luxury getaway to South Tyrol. Let me share with you the gems I discovered this time around, which added yet another fascinating chapter to my South Tyrol story.

At the heart of our adventures, and our respite after a day full of exploration, was our home away from home, the Maraias – Luxury Suites & Apartments. This jewel is the epitome of a luxury getaway in South Tyrol. The hotel promises and delivers spacious comfort near Lake Resia, with the design of the rooms and suites reflecting an extension of the natural landscape that surrounds us. With decent color accents and natural shades, it provides a calm environment where the panoramic views are the main attraction.

The comfort of living is paramount here, with no room or suite smaller than 30 m2, offering plenty of space for relaxing and daydreaming. Choose from a range of accommodation options: from the Garden Room Venusta with its south-facing garden balcony, to the Junior Suite Zebru’s panoramic Ortler view. For an even more indulgent experience, consider their Deluxe Apartment Maraias – a space that I can personally vouch for, where you can admire the sunrise on the eastern terrace and enjoy the Ortler view on the south-facing panorama terrace. Trust me, it’s an experience like no other.

From this comfortable base, our South Tyrol adventure began. We embarked on a cheese adventure at Brugger Alm im Zerzertal, enjoyed the medieval charm of Glurns – South Tyrol’s smallest village, witnessed the Sacred Heart of Jesus ceremony, and experienced the adrenaline rush of kite surfing on Reschensee. After days filled with adventure, Maraias’s spa offered a sanctuary to rejuvenate and relax. And meeting a herd of baby fallow deer reminded me once again of Maraias’s commitment to nature and sustainability.

Note: The prices mentioned above start from €89 for the rooms and €99 for the apartments.

A Cheese Adventure at Brugger Alm im Zerzertal

Our next adventure was a trip to Brugger Alm im Zerzertal – a place where time seems to slow down. A scenic cycle ride uphill brought us to this haven of homegrown food and authenticity. Witnessing the cheese-making process was insightful and, guess what? Two of the cows at Brugger Alm were from Maraias! Seeing them there was so so cool. The climax of our visit was feasting on ‘kaiserschmarrn’, a fluffy shredded pancake, which was like a slice of heaven in the mouth. An authentic taste of South Tyrol that left us craving more! We rented the bikes from the hotel, same as last year!

Exploring Glurns, South Tyrol’s Smallest Village

A short, 10-minute drive transported us to the enchanting village of Glurns. South Tyrol’s smallest village turned out to be a treasure trove of medieval charm. Exploring the cobbled lanes, marveling at the well-preserved town walls. We spent one hour there, which was enough time I would suggest.

Witnessing the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ceremony

Experiencing the Sacred Heart of Jesus ceremony was an unexpected blessing. The solemnity of the ceremony, coupled with the participation of the locals, revealed the deep-rooted traditions and cultural richness of this area. A humbling experience that added a new dimension to my trip and it reminds me of why I love traveling so much.

Adventures in Kite Surfing at Reschensee

If you ever told me we’d be kite surfing amidst Alpine peaks, I would have laughed. But hey, here we are, reminiscing about the adrenaline rush of kite surfing on Reschensee. The wind in my hair, the cool alpine air, and the thrill of surfing on the crystalline waters set against a backdrop of the majestic Dolomites. A surreal, exhilarating, and unforgettable experience!
