Morocco is a treasure trove of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. From the charming blue city of Chefchaouen to the remote oasis of M’Hamid, there are so many unique destinations to explore off the beaten path. As a young woman who loves to travel, I’ve uncovered some of Morocco’s best-kept secrets, and I’m excited to share them with you in this post.
Hidden gems Morocco
- Chefchaouen: Known as the blue city, Chefchaouen is a hidden gem in the Rif Mountains, characterized by its blue-washed buildings and narrow alleyways. It’s a photographer’s dream come true, with endless opportunities to capture stunning shots of the city’s colorful architecture. My personal tip is to explore the medina and get lost in the winding alleys, stumbling upon hidden courtyards and tucked-away cafes along the way.
- Skoura: Skoura is a lush oasis located in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, characterized by it’s date palm groves and traditional Kasbahs. It’s a perfect destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and unwind in a serene natural setting. My personal tip is to stay in a traditional Kasbah and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
- M’Hamid: M’Hamid is a remote oasis located in the Sahara Desert, characterized by its vast sand dunes and traditional Berber culture. It’s the perfect destination for those looking to experience the beauty and vastness of the desert. My personal tip is to take a camel trek into the desert and camp overnight under the stars, feeling the peace and tranquility of the vast desert landscape.
- Asilah: Asilah is a charming coastal town located in northern Morocco, characterized by its whitewashed buildings and vibrant street art. It’s a perfect destination for those looking to combine a beach vacation with cultural exploration. My personal tip is to explore the town’s medina and enjoy the sea views from the ramparts, taking in the colorful street art along the way.
- Azrou: Azrou is a small town located in the Middle Atlas Mountains, characterized by its cedar forests and Barbary macaques. It’s a perfect destination for those looking to experience the beauty of the Atlas Mountains and the unique wildlife of Morocco. My personal tip is to take a hike in the nearby Ifrane National Park and see the macaques up close, feeling the magic of this unique landscape.
While Marrakech is not exactly one of the hidden gems, it’s often the starting point for many travelers visiting Morocco. Marrakech is a vibrant and bustling city, known for its souks, gardens, and iconic landmarks like the Koutoubia Mosque and Jemaa el-Fnaa square. My personal tip is to stay in a traditional riad in the heart of the medina, enjoying the colorful architecture and unique atmosphere of this ancient city.
